Guided tour of the Homolovi II Ancestral Hopi Pueblo Village, National Register of Historic Places in Winslow, Arizona.
Tour is .4 mile on an accessible paved walkway, followed by a .9 mile hike over rough, uneven, slippery, steep unmaintained earthen trails to ancient petroglyphs. Hike is Moderate/Difficult, quality footwear recommended, walking staff/stick, sunscreen and hat recommended, water/hydration required. 3, 2026. Transportation is not provided to or from the pueblo location.
Transportation must be arranged by guests. Reservations can be made by the calling park at (928) 289-4106. This is a single onetime tour for the event limited to 20 participants.
Homolovi II Ancestral Hopi Pueblo, National Register of Historic Places is the largest of the ancestral Hopi Pueblos in the Homolovi Cluster. First formally excavated by Dr. Jesse Walter Fewkes in 1896, documenting the pueblos cultures for the American Bureau of Ethnology: Smithsonian Institute. Later the site was revisited by the Arizona State Museum – Homolovi Research Project 1983 through 2006. Studying the late Hopi Migrations and examining how and why large village clusters formed along the Little Colorado River during the late settlement period (A.D. 1260–1400).
The pueblo has an estimated size of over 1200 rooms with 47 kivas. It may have had a population of over 600 people and was a major trade center for the crossroads of prehistoric trading routes in now northeastern-Arizona.
