We support Proposition 487 – the Tax Renewal of the Bed, Board and Beverage Tax – because we have experienced what this fund has done for our community.
With 100% confidence, The Flagstaff Festival of Science knows that the reinvestment of the BBB tax into our city is a much-needed continuance.
The programs that receive BBB funding are as follows: Parks and Recreation, Tourism and Visitor Services, Beautification, Arts & Science and Economic Development. Without the grant program that the Arts & Science BBB allocation offers, we would not be able to put on the Flagstaff Festival of Science program for the community. In fact, over 40 non-profits receive BBB grant funding each year to the tune of over $400,000. This funding is crucial for our non-profits, artists and more to share their craft.
The visitor is paying the lion’s share of the tax at 68%. The BBB 2% tax is derived from restaurants, bars, campgrounds, hotels, and short-term rentals. This contribution is being poured back into the community for the things members of our community care about most – excellent trail systems, welcoming parks and playgrounds, culture and heritage programming, artistic productions and displays, science programming and initiatives, and business support.
Did you know that this important fund was established in 1988?
We urge our supporters to mark YES to renew the BBB tax, so that this fund can continue benefiting our community and quality of life. Having this fund focused on supporting the programs listed above also takes the burden off the City’s budget so it can focus on other programs like public safety, housing, and more.
